Postpartum Planning Consultations
Prepare for the part no one prepares you for.
Most parents spend months preparing for birth—but very few have a plan for what happens after the baby arrives.
The fourth trimester is a time of profound physical recovery, emotional adjustment, and identity change. While every family's journey is unique, having a thoughtful postpartum plan can make the transition feel less overwhelming and help you enter this season with greater confidence.
During this personalized 2-hour consultation (available virtually or in person), we'll create a postpartum plan tailored to your family, your values, your lifestyle, and your support system. Together, we'll anticipate common challenges, identify practical solutions, and build a roadmap that helps you feel prepared—not just for bringing home a baby, but for caring for yourself as well.
Drawing from my experience as a Registered Nurse, certified birth and postpartum doula, DNP Midwifery student, Ayurvedic Health Counselor, and future IBCLC, I combine evidence-based medicine with holistic postpartum care to help you make informed decisions that feel right for your family. My goal isn't to tell you what to do—it's to help you understand your options so you can move into postpartum feeling supported, informed, and empowered.
What We'll Cover
Every consultation is customized, but common topics include:
Physical recovery after vaginal birth or cesarean birth
Planning for rest, healing, and realistic postpartum expectations
Breastfeeding, pumping, formula feeding, or combination feeding
Newborn sleep expectations and normal infant behavior
Partner communication and division of household responsibilities
Nourishing meals and practical postpartum nutrition
Mental and emotional wellness, including recognizing postpartum warning signs
Building your postpartum support network
Preparing siblings and navigating changing family dynamics
Setting healthy boundaries with visitors
Essential newborn supplies (and what you can skip)
Returning to work and childcare planning, if applicable
Referrals to trusted local professionals, including lactation consultants, pelvic floor physical therapists, mental health providers, and other specialists when appropriate
Your Personalized Postpartum Planning Guide
After our consultation, you'll receive a beautifully organized Personalized Postpartum Planning Guide—a customized roadmap designed specifically for your family.
Rather than trying to remember everything we discussed, you'll have an easy-to-reference guide that reflects your family's unique goals, preferences, and circumstances.
Your guide may include:
Your individualized postpartum recovery plan
Feeding goals and personalized resources
A partner and family support plan
Meal planning and nourishment recommendations
Visitor preferences and household boundaries
A list of local resources and referrals
Signs and symptoms that warrant medical follow-up
Newborn care guidance and realistic expectations
A personalized preparation checklist
Notes and recommendations from our consultation
This isn't a generic handout—it's a practical resource you'll return to throughout your fourth trimester.
“While our family’s postpartum experience was indeed meaningful and even magical, we are most grateful for how *manageable* the experience proved to be, in large part thanks to Izzy. We saved up our general and random questions and concerns for when she came, and appreciated her perspective and expertise. To us, her presence and practice was calming, easy-going, wholesome, nurturing, and a bit whimsical/artful. I recommend hiring a doula for everyone who is able, as the kind of unique yet broad support they offer is unmatched by other supportive services during the postpartum period. ”
More Than a Plan—Peace of Mind
The internet is full of advice. What most families are missing is a trusted guide to help them sort through it all.
Families I work with often tell me they leave our conversations feeling calmer, more confident, and reassured that they don't have to figure everything out on their own. Instead of wondering what to expect or whether you're making the "right" decision, you'll have a plan built around your family's values, backed by evidence, and grounded in practical experience.
My hope is that you'll leave feeling:
Confident in your recovery and feeding plan
Better prepared for the realities of newborn life
Equipped to recognize when something deserves additional support
Clear on how you and your partner can work together as a team
Empowered to make decisions that align with your family's values
Less anxious about the unknowns of postpartum
Supported, informed, and ready to embrace this new chapter
My role isn't to create a "perfect" postpartum experience. It's to help you build a realistic, flexible plan so you can spend less time worrying and more time healing, bonding with your baby, and enjoying your growing family.
