Doula Care

“Izzy was an exceptional birth and postpartum doula for the birth of our second kiddo. I describe doula services to others as a therapist specifically around the birth experience... who can also cook, clean, provide child care.. basically the BEST investment in the mental and physical health of a new parent. Working with Izzy was truly a comfort and source of strength. Her support and communication before, during, and after birth gave me tremendous confidence and peace of mind in my body’s own process. Her postpartum care was nothing short of magical- how does someone make such delicious meals in such a short time, and take care of a newborn? I highly recommend working with her, she has an energy and presence that you want in your life, particularly if you are navigating the journey of bringing a new life into this world!”

I am currently available for birth and postpartum doula clients, April 2025 and onward! I am taking May 2025 off.

My philosophy

I believe that birth is a powerful and phenomenal experience-meant to test our inner strength and resilience. Birth is magnificently intense and raw-serving as one of the few reminders in this world that our bodies (and babies) are still wild, primal creatures. It’s an opportunity to relinquish control and learn to deeply trust your body in its brilliance. As a doula, I love watching birthing people discover a power within themselves they never knew existed. I find purpose in helping people navigate the twists and turns of their birth story, crossing thresholds of fear and uncertainty. As your doula, I’m there to create a protective space so that your body (heart, mind, and spirit) can have an uninterrupted and safe physiological birth. I’m there to create a container for you and your partner to bond, as they step up as your primary support.

Through it all, I offer unwavering, nonjudgmental, emotional support.

I’m passionate about enhancing relationships in your new and emerging family-helping you and your partner feel confident and secure so you can use your birth as an opportunity to deepen your connection to one another.

During pregnancy I provide physical, emotional and informational support for the whole family. During the birth I facilitate communication and provide reassurance and perspective with care providers and clinical staff, ensuring you have the information needed to make informed decisions. My skills include suggestions for pregnancy specific exercises and movement, resolving pregnancy discomforts, assisting in labor progress, offering relaxation tips and massage, optimizing fetal positioning, and additional integrative complementary modalities.

I understand that every family is unique and help you figure out what the best path is for you, offering personalized care and attention throughout your birth experience.

what makes my work unique

I’m a DONA International Certified Birth Doula, as well as a Lamaze trained childbirth educator, perinatal yoga instructor, and Khalsa Way kundalini yoga teacher. I’ve also done continuing education with Body Ready Method, Spinning Babies, and lactation counseling. My experience as a yoga instructor and Ayurvedic Wellness Counselor has given me a breadth of experience using marma points (trigger points) and physical assists to help people find comfort and relaxation. My experience as an educator and yoga instructor make me skilled at guiding people (and their partners) through various positions, movements, and breathing techniques. I’m invested in the integration of generational wisdom and evidence-based practices. I love to share evidence and resources- I would love to talk to you about your options for everything from medical pain management for birth to herbs for labor preparation and postpartum healing. As an Ayurvedic Health Counselor, herbalist and yogi who is also in nursing school-I like to think I have my feet firmly grounded across both the holistic and allopathic perspectives. As a doula my physical presence is calm, quiet, collected, and steady.

Want to get a feel for me? I teach a quarterly prenatal and postnatal yoga series at Yess Yoga, the next ones begin in July 2024! This is a great way to get a feel for my voice, presence, and birth philosophy.

How it works

My birth doula fee is $2100 and this includes two, two-hour prenatal visits, text and email support leading to your birth, on-call for you from 37 weeks gestation and until the birth, in-person support from active labor until 2 hours after baby is born, and one 2-hour postpartum visit. postpartum doula services

My job as a postpartum doula is to nourish my client, and their family, during the first 3 months after the birth. What that looks like day to day varies based on the family’s need. I may help with light housekeeping, care for baby while working in your kitchen to prepare delicious meals, or make space for you to rest while I tend to the house and baby. Most importantly I provide non-judgmental emotional support. How was your night? How are YOU feeling? I’m there to talk through all the ups and downs of the fourth trimester. I won’t try to fix your feelings-I will hold space for you to share them. When you need me to help you find resolutions, I can help organize your care team, calm your home life, connect you with the best healthcare professionals, and assist in resolving the chaos that may be adding to your postpartum anxiety and/or fatigue. I’m also extensively trained in breast/chest feeding, newborn care, and postpartum recovery—working with evidence-based recommendations to provide expert, unbiased, postpartum care.

what makes my work unique

I’m an experienced personal cook, certified Ayurvedic health counselor, Ayurvedic postpartum care specialist, student herbalist, and an experienced infant care provide. I’ve been working in other people’s homes for over a decade providing childcare and meal preparation, so I know how to gracefully and lovingly enter other people’s space during the fourth trimester. Unlike most postpartum food services, I let my clients pick the recipes I prepare during each visit, and I can make anything from Kitchari to roast chicken. My background is in plant-based nutrition, so I am great at making delicious, nutritious meals the whole family can enjoy. As an experienced personal cook, I can also work with what you have in your pantry to make full meals, or simply prepare produce for you to cook later (if you like to do your own cooking). I’m passionate about nutrition and food culture and believe food is our first medicine, and I’d love to tell you more about my favorite cookbooks and the foods I recommend for the postpartum window.

Nervous about leaving your newborn in the hands of someone else? In addition to being an experienced infant care provider, I also maintain current CPR certification and am fully vaccinated.

what it looks like

Each one of my day visits is 6 hours and is done in your own home. During that time I do a mix of infant care, emotional counseling, personal cooking, and new parent education. Each visit also includes personalized postnatal yoga instruction and up to 30 minutes of bodywork for the mom/post-birth parent. In a 6 hour visit I can prepare 4 meals all while wearing baby (so you can rest or do some self-care) and then guide you through an hr of gentle postnatal yoga, ending our visit with a calming 30 minute postpartum massage. During our time together I provide a reassuring voice and a nonjudgemental ear while you process your birth story or want to talk through the challenges associated with postpartum. I’m a shoulder to cry on when you need it, helping you navigate the emotional ups and downs that come with having a baby. Have questions about how to restore your pelvic floor or what to do to relieve sore back muscles? We will go over all things postnatal healing and strength building during you 1-on-1 yoga classes.

For overnight support-I focus primarily on infant care and lactation counseling. Overnights are 8 hour shifts between 10pm and 6am. During the shift I stay with baby (resting periodically on a couch or guest bed in the room). If baby is breast/chest-fed, when they are ready to feed I’ll bring them to the room to gently wake the lactating parent. I’ll bring snacks, fill water bottles, or fold laundry while baby feeds then when they are finished feeding I will burp, change, and soothe them back to sleep. If baby is able to take a bottle I will offer them the bottle as they are hungry. Overnights are a great way to recharge-getting extra sleep knowing your baby is being well cared for!

Postpartum daytime care is $50 per hour with a minimum visit time of 6 hours and overnight care is $60/hr with a minimum visit time of 8 hours. All interviews for potential clients are free. To reserve hours/availability, 50% down payment is due at contract signing. Questions? Email me! I’m happy to talk more about what your needs are postpartum and how I can help.

We hired Izzy as our birth doula for the birth of our first child. My birth was very short and relatively straightforward, but the period after - postpartum healing, challenges with nursing, emotional hurdles - were anything but easy. Izzy really shone in the initial postpartum period, providing a lot of tactical advice and resources around feeding, nutrition, and body healing. But she also provided so much emotional care and support- holding both my feelings and my partners feelings as we navigated this transition. I also appreciated how Izzy was able to discuss both the small hurdles facing us in this moment as well as the larger structural and societal expectations that make this time difficult. Being people of color, we also appreciated Izzy’s cultural competencies, recognizing and accepting without judgement that our families may do things differently and not making blanket recommendations that wouldn’t work for us and our communities. We’re delighted to stay connected to Izzy and consider her a friend!
